Position Summary
The Senior Linux Engineer - RedHat is responsible for engineering and customizing UNIX solutions for internal projects. Focuses on the delivery of technical design, quality of solution, knowledge transfer to other areas, and mentoring the UNIX Server team members. Must communicate and adhere to the firm's enterprise-wide UNIX platform technology architecture design, principals, guidelines and solutions. Conducts research and understands Linux platform industry trends with regards to technology, and can understand and evaluate the use of automated tools and utilities and how they relate in support of enterprise architecture.

Principle
Responsibilities:

Firm/Enterprise Architecture & Engineering Related
Enables company to implement the most optimal and effective, business solutions
Maintains understanding of existing applications and technology solutions for leveraging the reuse of services and for the consolidation of services.
Identifies and researches opportunities to leverage emerging UNIX tools to the betterment of the environment.
Develops and documents architecture solutions, including designs, guidelines and UNIX-specific standards for enterprise-wide implementation.
Leads and enables collaboration across technology specialties - ensures that ADM, Infrastructure, Information Security and Architecture are all working together.
Supports adherence to relevant ADM/CMMI, ITIL, internal audit, and risk-management standards.
Maintains understanding of emerging architecture concepts and methods and associated technology trends.
Participates in the design, specification, and implementation of business and technology projects, assuring and resolving adherence to enterprise-wide solutions.
Provides guidance and leadership for UNIX technology standardization process

Technology Related
Implements and customizes UNIX projects per specifications.
Conceptualize and design next generation Linux Operating Platform, inclusive Application Integration and Porting from Unix, Lifecycle Management and Operations.
Develop Linux Operating Platform roadmap. Analyze and recommend emerging Linux technologies that can provide benefit while reducing risk.
Provide Linux Platform architecture guidance, research technical issues; publish standards, best practices, white papers and solutions. Conduct proof-of-concept exercises to validate concepts and assumptions.
Act as the Linux Platform subject matter expert by providing technical leadership across all IT disciplines.

Experience (Mandatory):
Minimum of 8 years' experience in Linux platform,
Must include storage and network integration
In depth knowledge of the complete RedHat Linux technology stack.
In depth knowledge of hypervisor platforms and their management capabilities (ESX, Xen, XenServer, KVM, Hyper-V).
In depth knowledge of storage and network virtualization technologies, capabilities, trends and the automated interaction with the physical infrastructure (EMC, NetApp, Client, Cisco).
In-depth experience managing vendor support services for the purpose of escalating technical issues to expedient resolution.
At least 5 years as a partipant in formal project process via a Project Management Office/Project Manager.
In-depth kernel-level experience with the ability to fine tune Linux Operating platforms for specific workloads, such as relational databases, middleware, low-latency solution stacks
Experience with Business Continuity and Disaster Recover design, planning and implementation for Linux Operating Platforms

Experience (Preferred):
Experience with IBM P-Series platforms including LPAR, dynamic LPAR, Micro-Partitioning, Virtual I/O Server and Capacity on Demand
Experience with Solaris, Linux (RHEL & SLES), AIX Operating platforms
Experience with Web technologies including web services architectures and security
Experience with RDBMS technologies including Oracle RAC, Sybase, MS-SQL, DB2
Experience with 10G technologies and I/O Virtualization
Experience overhauling legacy applications to work with modern technologies

Knowledge/Skills:
Maintains current knowledge of marketplace changes, technology changes, and client businesses pertinent to server, Red Hat builds, storage and network virtualization and cloud computing
Exemplifies leadership characteristics in support of corporate objectives; acts as a agent for cross-functional teamwork and collaboration.
Demonstrates proficiencies in issue resolution, and communication.
Excellent analytical problem solving skills with a methodical approach to problem resolution across large scale distributed platforms
Strong knowledge of multi-tiered application environments, including their design, implementation and capacity/scaling challenges
Strong knowledge related to public/private/hybrid cloud solutions and market trends, PaaS, SaaS, storage and network optimization

Education, Training or Certification:
Advanced degree in a technical discipline preferred
